Gold, gold, gold und bier; Bier, bier, bier und gold

No, not a month without a posting ;) But that happens if you’re so busy doing all these things during the weekends, one has got barely time in the evenings during the week to do some blogging. Next week the Audi Allroad/Offroad treffen coming up again. I definately need to recharge batteries and reserve some more time for writing here :) Still .. it’s just great that these things happen here, couldn’t think of this being possible back in the Netherlands. Next weekend there’s going to be one close by where also horses are participating. I need to get my Jr’s ready to join in a few years time :)

This weekend we, ‘Atlanta’ and ‘Jack Jr.’ were invited for a ‘2 Kings party for the normal people’:

Well, call it normal people, it was a LARP game. For many “normal” people that entered “our” castle and area around it a quite strange thing to see: all people dressed up in Medieval clothes, playing medieval games.

For us, the players (also non-players this time, as it was a party), it was great to be again “someone else” for a few days. For myself it was a great chance to practice some more shiatsu in the “massage area”, learn some shooting with bows and arrows, have fun and from time to time lie down in the sun, surrounded by many people having a lot of fun :)
For others .. I don’t know how to say it. I would not know how these people would be “in real life” (’out time’), as I only have gotten to know them “in time”.

There is the Feldküche which looks after food (it was *mjummy* again big time this year, I didn’t like the waspsalad that much though ;)

(yes, something seldom being seen over here; a dwarf giving money instead of earning or stealing it ;)

There is also the Taverne which sells drinks, and has got a wishlist of people “wanted”:

Also some “Händler” are there to sell their weapons and Magician stuff:

It is like being a player in a movie in the middle ages, observing what is happening around you, and feel completely at home.

Yet, there are still some luxuries from the 20th century that can be used, like my favorite “quickdrawer”, my camera ;)

There were some games organized, like the shadow game. Don’t ask me how it exactly goes, but you have got 2 groups fighting eachother in a play-area, each has got their own role. This guy knows exactly how it goes :)

Someone defends his group, there is one person with a sword attacking the others

Sticks have got to be thrown,

once everyone from one group is hit, they have to lift up their hands

Then they have got to fetch some bales of hey which they need to put in the center of the area which needs to stand for 4 seconds

while the other group carries their magician

and a box around the playing field:

The number of rounds they carry box and magician around is the number of points the winning group gets.
This year it was between the people from the Taverne and a (new) group of fanatic celtic women which were *really* good ;)

The publicum really enjoyed it, as there were quite a lot of mistakes being made ;)

“Es soll eskalieren, es soll eskalieren, es soll eskalieren” ;)

(last one makes me think of LOTR & A Knights Tale ;)

Also there was room for a birthday, completely ‘out of the blue’ some people showed up with a birthday cake and gave it to the person celebrating his birthday ;)

There were also some “player” parts in it. Pretty scary if you walk up the big tower

and all of a sudden see this:

Later on in the evening there were some dancing parties going on. It got better with a “Pornopolka” where all couples will have to dance until they drop dead or give up. Many winners this year ;) - someone decided the (repeated) music was enough after over 45 minutes of continuous dancing ;)

We hoped to see a firespitting show later in the evening, unfortunately that wasn’t going to happen, so I had to disappoint Jr.
Instead, we had a “Brall wetbewerb” and a “Bard wettbewerb” in the Taverne, where people could win prizes by singing and talking loud. You’ll have to see “a Knight’s Tale” to know what I mean ;)
Here is also where I got this posts’ title from. The dwarf was ’suggested’ to give it a go as well, for some money ofcourse, and so he went out to “sing his song”. I had a great laugh to see how all the people just joined in. I’m not sure what people are thinking though when Jr. and I nowadays are singing “gold, gold, gold and beer, beer and beer and gold” ;)) It’s our little secret ;)

However, Jr. had a lot of fun during the day. It is *so* great to see him melting in the Medieval surroundings as it is the most normal thing to do. He’s been there 2 years ago as well and he remembered every little bit of it. This time he was eager to learn some swordfighting :

and shooting with bows and arrows:

As it was a LARP fest, all LARP weapons are covered in thick foam and latex, to not harm anyone. Even the arrows were prepared.

Jr. was the one in a group of about 8 kids that found the treasure that was hidden. First of all, the treasure map was torn in pieces, they had to convince the dwarf Xarambegolosch to get a snippet back:

then the kobold as well:

Then, when he had finally discovered the treasure,

the people that helped them during their search, ran away with the treasure,

so the kids had to hunt ‘em down and get it back :)

Also, here are some impressions of the characters that were at the playground;
