Weihnachtsmarkt in Erbach

After a busy and exciting week we decided to celebrate the start of the weekend in Erbach. This village can be found in the centre of the Odenwald next to Michelstadt, it has got a nice little Weihnachtsmarkt. The market is located around the Erbacher Schloss and has got one of the largest Xmastrees in Germany.

Unfortunately we did not meet the group we wanted to join so we made our own tour over the market. A lot of stands with art cut out in wood, stands with sweets and some seasonal stuff and ofcourse the Glühwein and Punch stands.

As it was pooring Down with rain (we expected at least snow ;) ) most people could be found looking for shelter here. We enjoyed the life music being played in front of a traditional Fachwerkhaus, warmed ourselves up with a Quattro and a real cappuchinobath.

After a short break we headed home through the pitchblack Odenwald. Pictures follow later.

So hectic the drive to Erbach was; with loads of rain; narrow roads and crazy drivers (yeah, the Erbacher locals with their “ERB” licenseplates; doing annoyingly slow 110kmh on the Autobahn but 110kmh as well in the Odenwald and pushing you nearly off the road)…

… So peaceful and quiet the way back was. Not a single car behind me; very few cars anway on the road. Beautiful music playing on the soundsystem; Luxuslärm, Polarkreis 18, Unheilig, Herbert Grönemeyer, Rosenstolz and Silbermond, Schiller, Heppner, they all fittet in well on the way back.

It even started with a bit of magic; moonlight (hah, silbermond? :) which shed it’s light in between the trees on the leftovers of the snow and then lit the valley I went through. It all lit up gently blue/silverish, even more when some fog covered the road, forests and fields around us. I’m glad we didn’t meet any wild boars which are raging around in the area here at the moment.
Shortly after the quiet ‘fog-floating’ track (yeah, again that specific hill one goes over and on the other side the weather is completely different) it started to snow again; which wasn’t visible, only to be heard as it was gently patting the windscreen and only gave a bit of a blurred view on houses and christmastrees with “lampenschmuck” in the little villages we went through. We arrived home late; but jr. was long time asleep already; holding his xmas hat steady in his hands.
